Baggage Policy
The baggage allowance of Delta Airlines is as follows:
Checked Baggage.
- Passengers can carry only one checked baggage on Delta Airlines.
- The checked baggage dimensions must not exceed 158 cm on all sides.
- The weight of the checked baggage must not exceed 50 pounds.
- Passengers can be charged extra baggage fees if they carry more than one checked baggage.

Child Policy
Traveling with children is always a hectic thing; however, the child policy of Delta Airlines makes it easier for the mothers and the children.
For children below 2 years of age traveling on mother's lap in the US, you need to have a ticket but if you’re traveling internationally, you need a ticket which is priced at 10% of adult’s ticket and you have to pay country-specific fees for the same. Also, children below 2 years are not allowed to travel alone and must be accompanied by a passenger who is over 18 years.
If you're traveling with a child below two years but in their own seat, they need a ticket whether traveling domestically or internationally; however, country-specific discounts will apply. Also, such children should be accompanied by a passenger who is above 18 years.
Children between 2-4 years traveling domestically or internationally will need a ticket on Delta Airlines and when you’re traveling internationally, you’ll need to pay country-specific fees with discounts. You must be accompanied by a passenger above 18 years and you cannot travel alone.
If you're 5-14 years old, then you will need a ticket when you travel domestically or internationally on Delta Airlines and you must pay country-specific fees when traveling internationally which may have discounts. You have the provision to travel alone on non-stop flights using the Unaccompanied Minor Program.
If you're above 15 years old, you will need a ticket when you travel domestically or internationally on Delta Airlines and you must pay country-specific fees when traveling internationally which may have discounts. You can enjoy hassle-free travel alone with Delta Airlines.
Delta Airlines charges $150 fee each way, up to 4 children between ages 5-14 years and provides an employee escort and special amenities. The unaccompanied minor program by Delta includes,
- Barcodes wristbands for children traveling as unaccompanied minors to track their journey.
- Parents or guardians have the eligibility to escort unaccompanied minors to the gate area through security.
- Children will have access to the Delta Sky Zone at some airports. It's a kids-only lounge with snacks, video games, and a secure area to hang out between flights.
Child Baggage
You can carry child safety seats in the plane if you purchased a seat for your child. During the plane take-off and landing, you can place your child in an FAA-approved child restraint. Suppose if there is no empty seat, you can check the same seat at the gate. You can also travel with strollers or car seats for free on Delta Airlines.
With the carry-on baggage, you can bring some infant items for free on Delta Airlines, like
- Breast Pump and cooler bag
- Booster seat or any other infant seat.
However, these items must meet the standard baggage allowance in dimensions and weight.
If your child is traveling for free, there will be no child Baggage allowance but if you buy tickets for your child you can enjoy extra child Baggage allowance along with yours. The Child Baggage Allowance is as follows:
- For children traveling internationally, one checked bag up to 20 pounds and dimensions below 45 inches is allowed. Also, you can check in a fully collapsible stroller or push-chair.
- If a child travels on a ticket that is 50% or more of the adult fare then the standard baggage allowance applies.
- If you're traveling with an infant on arms in a Transatlantic (TATL) or Latin America Basic Economy Fare, then you’re not eligible for free baggage allowance.
Newborn or less than 7 day babies are not allowed to travel unless they have an approval letter from a physician that gives permission for a newborn to fly. Babies between 0-2 years may travel with a parent or guardian above 18 years of age either on the laptop of the adult or on an FAA-approved child safety.
Pet Policy
The Pet Policy of Delta Airlines says that small dogs, cats, and household birds are allowed to travel on the plane for a small fee. However, the pet must fit in a soft-sided ventilated pet kernel which must be placed in the seat in front of you.
If you're carrying your pet as a carry-on inside the plane, here are the guidelines by Delta Airlines that you must follow:
- The pet must be at least 8 weeks old for domestic travel and if you’re traveling to the U.S. from another country, the pet must be 16 weeks old. If you’re traveling to the European Union, your pet must be at least 15 weeks old.
- The airline permits only 1 pet per kennel with some exceptions, like
- 1 female cat or dog may travel with her un-weaned litter if the litter is between 8 weeks and 6 months of age. There is no limit on the number of animals in the litter as long as they can fit safely in the kennel.
- 2 pets of the same breed and size between the ages of 8 weeks and 6 months can travel in 1 kennel; however,they must fit into a single kennel and are compatible. If the pets are allowed to travel in 1 kennel, they will be charged as 1 pet.
- Pets in kennels will be counted as your 1 carry-on item. Additionally, you are permitted to bring 1 personal item on board the aircraft apart from the kennel.
If you’re traveling with a carry-on pet on Delta Airlines, you cannot select your seats in these regions of the aircraft- Bulkhead seats, An emergency exit row, Seats designated as “no stowage”, Flat-bed or Delta One seat, Rows 46-51 on the A330-200 aircraft, Rows 54-59 on the A330 -300 aircraft, and Center seats on the B757-200 aircraft.
Only 2 pets are allowed for Domestic First Class, including Canada, US, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam; Domestic Business Class, Domestic Delta One, and International First Class. However, carry-on pets are not allowed in any cabin with flat-bet seats.
No pets are allowed in International Business Class, International Delta One, and Delta Premium Select. Around 4 pets are allowed in the Main Cabin of Domestic and International flights with some restrictions.
Flight Change Policy
According to the flight change policy, Delta Airlines doesn't charge any fees for tickets originating from the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean to any destination. However, this rule is not applicable for Basic Economy Tickets.
You can change your flight with a non-refundable ticket but you have to pay the fare difference that may go up to $400, depending on your route. If you're traveling on a Basic Economy Ticket and you want to change flights, then it's not possible because these tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
The following are the Cancellation Policies of Delta Airlines:
- For a non-refundable ticket, cancellation charges may be deducted from your flight cost and the remaining amount will be given as an e-credit that you can use to purchase another ticket.
- There is no cancellation fee for Delta Main Cabin and above tickets within the US, Puerto Rico, and USVI.
- The airline doesn't charge cancellation fee for Delta Main Cabin and above tickets originating from the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, or the Caribbean to anywhere in the world.
- There are no cancellation fees for Basic Economy Tickets.
- The cancellation fees start from $99 depending on your itinerary.
The Refund Policies of Delta Airlines are:
- Most tickets of Delta Airlines are non-refundable and all amenities along with the tickets are also not refundable.
- If the flight is canceled from the Airlines’ end and you want to claim your refund, you can submit the Travel Disruptions form for the refund.
- The airline will not provide any refund for,
- Non-refundable tickets that did not undergo cancellation or delay above 120 minutes.
- Tickets purchased from third-party agencies
- Tickets already used for travel.
- Delta Airlines will not reimburse, weather delays, prepaid expenses, delayed baggage expenses, ticket costs for missed connections in other airlines, child or pet care, Delta Sky Club or other lounge fees, and air traffic control delays.
